It's WMV and it's really stupid to convert them into divx or what you want because you loose quality.

There are many solutions to read a WMV clip on your TV:
* burn it into CD/DVD and read it with a dvd player compatible with WMV9 (or superior)
* move it onto a multimedia HDD compatible with WMV
* through Xbox (internal DVD player or connection to the computer with Media Center)
* through a DVD player connected to the computer with Windows Media Connect or WMP 11.
* connect your computer to your TV with a GC offering a port like SVIDEO, HDMI, DVI etc...

these wmv files are compatible with playstation3, xbox, and with many other media players.

All correct, but the easiest way still is to get yourself some DVD creator software. Afaik, NeroVision comes free with the Nero burning program for example and allows you to easily create custom DVD's. That way you can encode and then burn every WMV file to DVD!

Or buy a multimedia nas, they're not that expensive anymore.

First of all, thank you very much for your answers. They have been very helpful.

I have two problems.
I have a really expensive DVD player that gives a fantastic picture but only accepts DVD's and a few other formats.
I also wish to have chapter headers so that i can jump in the videos. This means that i need to convert to dvd.

I used Nero to decode a few test videos from these sites but found the end results quality lacking, it was unfortunately worse than most DVD releases i watch. But i'm not sure it was due to the resolution of the specific videos i have or a common problem that videos from these sites are of lower quality than normal DVD releases. Perhaps one of you gentlemen could enlighten me on this. The test videos i used were
720 x 400 meg4 format and
640 x 480 -> 1205Kbps wmv format

Are there usually higher resolutions available with better quality and in that case has anyone tried to convert those to dvd and gotten a good result?

Well, this is getting a little off topic here, but anyway...

640x480 and 720x400 is not enough to get a really good result on DVD. You said you have a really expensive DVD player, so I guess you have a pretty expensive large TV, too. So, if you really wanna watch those vids on your TV, you should go for sites that offer HD resolution. As far as I know the newest scenes at TeenCoreClub are in 1280x720 resolution, which is "HD ready". A lot of sites offer that these days, NoRestNetwork has it aswell, for example.

But now more and more sites even start to give you "Full HD" resolution (1920x1080), like XCoreClub or I Bang Myself. So be sure to watch out for the HD logo on the site tours, with these resolutions (both, 1280x720 and 1920x1080) you should have great results on your TV.
