You are right !
There is no sense in buying a DVD 40 or 60 euros !
I decided never to do it anymore.

I wish that the amateur mafia that runs the distribution in this business is soon kicked off by real professionals

Porn films here in Germany are sold for 40 to 50 Euro per DVD since years. But who cares? I buy all my DVDs from much cheaper online shops mostly in the US, so I'm happy for the cheap dollar at the moment

But what I would like to now is, if these companies really sell one of their movies. Who pays 50 Euro for a DVD? Mainstream DVDs here costs 10 to 20 Euro, and for porn you should pay more than the double? Dont know the English word for this, but we in Germany say that's Wucher or Nepp.

Nowadays, the porn companies has to work with agencies in eastern Europe. If i take the exemple of Private they take girl who pay just 200€ for an hour, this is very cheap.

Exactly ! Good distribution of DVDs in shops is crucial.
Companies must not only produce, but sell their films.
The distribution situation in shops is a disaster.
I do not like to buy or to watch films on internet.
So I cannot see many films.

Anyhow... depending on the country legislation toward porn, DVD distribution can be, or not, quite a good business.

Although globally, trends tend to show that the DVD market is crashing in Europe (compared to the US, where a "critical mass" can be reached in terms of volume, thus in terms of profitability).

No wonder for instance why a "should have been" block buster, Sexcalibur from Woodman, is announced on a 3 to 4 years amortization period !
And why then, Woodman is now heading strongly at internet aimed products...

By looking at some economical charts and reports of one of today's biggest producers, french Video Marc Dorcel, DVD income (and they distribute lots of US companies as well) is no more than 30% of their income.
Big apple share seems to be the VOD stuff, through TV's (internet TV terminals) or through the web...

I think all producers agree that DVD's dead. They still work on it, but their minds and strategies are now far ahead...

Interesting figures!
Where do you have them from, TheVulture?
And do you have similar ones for other Euro porn companies?

If you are right than consumers like ubertop and me are completely out of date, soon, too.
Me, I do order my porn dvds online meanwhile, but I want my porn on dvd mainly.

Yeap DAP-addict...

Got those figures from a french magazine names Hot Video, in a feature that concerns porn business economic facts.

It was in the one with Cherryl Jul in the cover (I think). There was a focus on Dorcel company, indeed, with turnover charts, and so.
I'll pass it to a french friend for a big lines translation (I got no more than 10% of content - have to improve my french  )

I love DVD's as well. Choosing the right ones, bonus tracks, nice boxing... But how long will it last ?

Oh ! I answered you about the condom question on the Chris Clark topic ("French Angels" shooting)

See ya !

besides the fact that the adult is indeed going down by the week,
also distribution companies have started to produce their own new labels, see Scala in the Netherlands, after the major label Private closed the doors last year from Private Benelux ( Belgium, Netherlands ), the label "Daring" came out... with the same cast, content and directors, and what happens... only Daring is for sale in the shops that are distributed by Scale, others like Dorcel, Magma and Woodman not...

more news about the current situation and future from the adult in:
