Exactly the same happened with audio CDs. The industry made a copyright protection on it, and I couldn't play many new CDs on my old player anymore. Since then I buyed exactly zero music CDs.

Always the paying customer is taking the can for a few assholes who think that all could be get for free. And what I especially don't like is the fact, that Sineplex put all customers under suspicion, to rip off their product. And its for sure, people who download movies from torrents never will pay for any kind of movie. They didn't care about things like original movie, picture and sound quality, it's only important that it's for free. And with Sineplex new strategy they will lost many potential customers. To download a movie with a virus in it, hard to believe.

If other studios will follow that, than it's likely that I soon will have the same strategy as with audio CDs. Don't buy anything

They're focusing on the wrong things. Sineplex has always been under-marketed-- way too low profile relative to the quality of their product. I used to routinely come back from the rental store with 4 or 5 DVDs, and the ONE Sineplex title would have more quality stuff than the others combined! Yet all you ever heard about was Maunel fucking Ferrera and Eric Everhard because Evil Angel markets the shit out of those guys. Look how Jay Sin's taken off since he went over there. I doubt most of his current fan base even know he came from Sineplex. Porn fans become loyal to directors, but Sineplex doesn't even list their's on the box. They should be putting their energy into building brand recognition, not worrying about piracty---which they can't do shit about anyway.

As someone who works in Anti-Piracy, the UK Government's proposals are largely unworkable and are merely designed to put people off (which it largely won't). It really doesn't really take into account that more and more people are downloading off one click file hosting services like Rapidshare, Megaupload etc or streaming their content.

5 years ago - everyone was sharing via torrents/P2P. This is not the case anymore as they're are far more options.

With the advent of Rapidshare et al, it's harder to go after individual uploaders but it's easier to remove content. For instance, if it's located on Rapidshare's servers, the corollary is that they'll remove it without asking too many questions – after all, they don't want bad publicity.

Thus, with a co-ordinated anti-piracy campaign, it's quite possible to minimise piracy to acceptable levels. So all is not necessarily lost.

However, you cannot really prove what uploaders and downloaders are doing. It's not like the Movie Studios etc can easily find IP addresses like on P2P. They'd need a court order/subpoena and this can be difficult especially if it's in another jurisdiction. Furthermore, what about if an uploader is using TOR and/or proxy servers or some other obfuscation technique to encrypt their traffic? What do you do then? The answer is very little. Thus, I don't think it's worth chasing shadows - as a priority it's better to get the content offline before doing anything else.

It should also be noted that whilst Rapidshare, Megaupload, Depositfiles etc will remove files quickly, they're unlikely to take much action against uploaders unless they're backed into a corner. Additionally, they might not be able to take action - an uploader might be using a free account and proxy servers which make identification nigh on impossible.

I'd also like to stress that even with the mooted law as mentioned in the story above, no Government will really care about porn piracy. For example, will Law Enforcement agencies really give a shit about 1 pornographic film when there are millions of illegal uploads/downloads every single day? No, they've got far more important fish to fry and money to spend elsewhere - 1 uploader is really not worth their time especially if it's not a well known movie or album. Stopping porn piracy will be very low on the list (if on the agenda at all!!).
