I hate Steve Holmes

Sorry to be negative but I do post a lot of positive stuff on here so hoping you allow me this one.

OK so I've not really been Steve Holmes' biggest fan for a while (too much showboating, face-slapping etc.) but I've cut him a bit of slack. He still turns in the odd good scene (with Britney and Whitney Stevens in Belladonna's Cock Pigs, for one), has a good-sized cock a lot of the female porn babes often get off on and can fuck pretty well on occasion.

Sadly, I've just picked up Jazz Duro's Cheek Freaks 4 and this will definitely be my last porn DVD with Steve Holmes in it.

Here's the case for the prosecution:

Exhibit A - scene 1, Kyra Black and Angelina Crow are looking pretty phenomenal (especially Kyra) but in a scene lasting about 50 mins (far too long) my guess is that Steve H manages barely 10 minutes of fucking and even that is fairly pedestrian fare. He just spends the whole scene talking, touching, moving the girls around into positions he doesn't then even follow-up while they're looking awesome and just gagging to be fucked. It's noticeable that when Jazz himself joins the fray later on he brings significantly more heat to the scene in a very short spell. Angelina and Kyra give the impression of actually being a bit disappointed. Wasted scene. Holmes' fault for me.

Exhibit B - scene 4. The really bad one. Sandra Parker looks a little less cute and more slutty than usual. This is a good thing, I think. Sadly, Holmes again delivers his trademark pedestrian showboat fuck for a fair bit but hang on....what's this?....with Sandra pinned to the sofa face up and getting a decent anal pounding and visibly showing pleasure and the scene starting to show promise, what does our hero decide the thing needs? What are we lacking here that will really drive the scene towards the big marks? Of course. It was so obvious. We need STEVE HOLMES' ENTIRE HAND COVERING SANDRA'S FACE. So that's what he does. We don't see her pretty face, we see the reverse of Holmes' hand as he basically smothers and humiliates her. And presumably Sandra must have great trouble breathing but then these sluts will put up with what Holmes gives them, won't they? They are not calling the shots here. The great man has won.

OK I'm being sarcastic here. I appreciate that Holmes isn't the only 1 does this stuff (Rocco Siffredi invented it I think and his protegee Omar Galanti has carried the mantle on) but the key difference for me is that Rocco and Galanti's stuff is generally a bit easier to avoid and more "niche". Holmes shows up in pretty much everything from the last few years on either side of the pond. And he used to be good (his scene with Sandra Romain and her sidekick mate in Buttman's Anal Show 4 is up there with the best ever for me) so, you know, I find it hard to totally give up on him.

I do often ask myself if I take this porn thing too seriously in these instances as well. But, you know, it seems quite basic stuff to me. The nasty guys are winning. I'm discerning and I think it's valid criticism.

But yeah, I'm done with Holmes now. I just don't get off on this aggressive, possibly misogynistic stuff. For me male porn stars are like football centre backs - you know they're having a good game when you don't really notice them. I suspect that given Holmes' age he maybe needs a bit of an "edge" to his scenes in order to keep going and that these thuggish nuances of his are what drive him on. Either that or he knows he no longer fucks hard or well so hopes these distract from his performance.

Either way, given that there's new talent like Timur (Anal Buffet 2) out there...or even if there isn't - bin off this tired has-been now.

Steve Holmes used to be one of the best male actors, maybe he has lost his touch a bit, but I do agree that alot is down to the director.
To be honest, I'm getting a bit sick & tired of the guys who keep mauling the girls. It's as if they are simply getting off on their own sexual desires rather than what the viewer wants to see. Omar is another culprit. Although I think Rocco is a good fucker even he sometimes goes too far. Unless it's an actual fetish scene or niche, it detracts from the sexiness of the girl.

I do agree that the director takes a lot of responsibility also. I just don't understand the mentality of the actor doing it in the first place. Bear in mind that Holmes crops up in lots of work by different directors and it's hard to imagine they all request he behaves like that.

I think it has just become a bit endemic and the directors tolerate it.

I think a bit of perspective is needed here chaps. This guy has been at the top of his game for nearly 13 years and is easily one of the most consistent performers in the business. Consequently, he's set rather high standards for himself and I thus think he's entitled to a few bad days at the office.

Moreover, you need to remember that Holmes is nearly 50 so it's inevitable that he won't be able to keep it up for that much longer.

At the end of the day he does a job that very few can do. I know I couldn't do it.
